Jay County Hospital MRI Renovation and New Addition

    The Situation
MSKTD, an Architectural firm based in Indianapolis, was asked by Jay County Hospital board to provide renovation and expansion services for their existing facility in Portland, Indiana. i.d.o. joined the design team to create an environment that would enhance the physical, mental and social well being of patients, visitors and healthcare providers.

    The Proposal
The task was phased, with a reorganization of the MRI suite setting the tone for the improved facilities. While the MRI suite was undergoing transformation, the design team reworked the functional settings of public, patient and administrative zones on the first floor. Moving the primary entrance from the middle of the building to the east end opened up the building to a two story lobby with access to emergency and patient treatment areas on the east and a circulation spine linking the gift shop, chapel, clinic offices, community rooms, and indoor/outdoor dining to the south. Labs and administrative functions were tucked behind this public/patient core. The new corridor and lobby opens the interior to natural light and natural views the team used to build an interior palette based on the landscape visible beyond. The result is an uplifting space that enhances the patient experience through color, texture and light.

    The Results
The newly renovated Jay County Hospital presents an updated space with a higher-technology while creating a pleasant environment to patients of one of the oldest hospitals in the state, therefore reflecting its brand of a progressive, comprehensive trusted leader dedicated to improving the health of all served.

    Methodist MPC1 Waiting Room Renovation

    The Situation
In collaboration with MSKTD Architectural firm based in Indianapolis the design team was asked to create an environment that would enhance the brand of Methodist while creating a space that would calm the visitors prior to treatment.

    The Proposal
The task at hand consisted of reorganizing the space, letting the reception be the focal point and allowing secure paper work functions tucked backed out of the main traffic pattern. We enhanced circulation and sight lines, and improved access to the exam rooms. The introduction of technology within the space enhanced the experience of the patient. Evidence based design elements were used to create a warm comfortable experience for the patients. The color palette, texture and lighting work in tandem with these design elements, to create a calm and peaceful setting for this waiting area located within steps of a busy hospital corridor. New furniture and artwork were also important elements in the overall design.

    The Results
The new MPC1 Waiting Room presents an updated space new technology while creating a pleasant environment and reflects its brand of a leadership position in the industry and its pioneering medical milestones.

    Clarian Health Partners: Move Coordination

    The Situation
Clarian Health Partners, a premier health care provider serving central Indiana, was embarking on the development of a centralized state-of-the-art pathology laboratory that when complete, would be one of the nation’s most modern and technologically advanced laboratories. The $67 million laboratory, boasting 164,000 square feet and designed to house 430 lab employees, would bring together three laboratories that until that time had been operating out of various locations. Centralization of these lab efforts would create tremendous efficiencies, and the modern design of the new lab would further support Clarian’s goal to provide greater service for its patients.

    The Assignment
i.d.o., Incorporated was selected to manage the move coordination for the Clarian Pathology Laboratory. The project involved consolidating Clarian’s three major hospital laboratories into one, centralized location—a task that Clarian had not previously attempted.

    The Solution
Working closely with Clarian’s team of managers, i.d.o. developed a strategic, multi-faceted move coordination plan specifically tailored to address the unique demands and specifications related to moving laboratory technology, equipment and people. While comprehensive in nature, the plan was adaptable in scope to accommodate the lab’s ever-evolving needs as the two-year project progressed toward completion.

“When all was said and done, the successful move completion of Clarian Health’s new CPL facility took the concerted efforts, persistence, drive, determination and flexibility of all parties involved…and we had ALL affected personnel completely embracing the overall team’s mission with a passion. I am honored and proud to have been associated with this project and am very appreciative of Clarian Health for having the confidence in our firm to manage the move process from concept through completion.” —Gary K. Pino, Managing Project Coordinator, i.d.o., Incorporated

    The Results
As a result of advanced planning and careful strategy, the never-before-attempted consolidation was flawlessly executed. i.d.o.’s hands-on leadership and flexible approach allowed the move coordination process to naturally progress without disruption or burden to the busy Clarian lab staff.

“Please thank your staff for going beyond all expectations to successfully complete these very complicated moves. I think I speak for the whole team in saying ‘thank you for a most commendable commitment to making each move a success. i.d.o., Incorporated is a breath of fresh air in a world of ‘let’s just get by’. Thanks so much! In fact, I can’t thank you and your team enough.” –Steven Vincent, CIPE, Senior Construction Engineer, Clarian Health

“I was particularly impressed by the way your project management proactively responded to so many different issues that cropped up on a daily basis, and initiated whatever was necessary to get the project handled on time and within budget! Yourteam’s flexibility and persistence enabled us to deliver a showcase facility!”—Edward R. Wilson, Director of Operations, Clarian Health Partners
